Waste Segregation Unit Launch

August 7, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

We cordially invite the public to a Waste Segregation Unit Launch in Malindi town, in Kilifi County on 7th August 2024 at Dola Depot, opposite Imarika from 10 AM. You are all welcomed.

Waste segregation is an important practice for effective waste management and environmental protection.

Importance of waste segregation:

  1. Facilitates recycling: Separating recyclable materials like paper, plastic, glass, and metals makes the recycling process more efficient and cost-effective.
  2. Reduces landfill waste: Proper segregation diverts recyclable and compostable materials from landfills, extending their lifespan.
  3. Conserves resources: Recycling materials reduces the need for raw materials, conserving natural resources and energy.
  4. Minimizes pollution: Proper disposal of hazardous waste prevents contamination of soil and water sources.
  5. Promotes composting: Segregating organic waste allows for composting, which produces nutrient-rich soil amendments.
  6. Improves waste collection efficiency: Sorted waste streamlines collection and processing, reducing transportation costs and emissions.
  7. Supports circular economy: Waste segregation is crucial for implementing circular economy principles, where materials are reused and recycled.
  8. Raises environmental awareness: The practice encourages people to think about their consumption habits and waste generation.
  9. Creates economic opportunities: Recycling and waste management industries can create jobs and stimulate local economies.
  10. Reduces greenhouse gas emissions: Proper waste management, facilitated by segregation, can significantly reduce methane emissions from landfills.
